Wednesday, August 5 has 15 games on it, and the player-prop board keeps telling the same story: the marquee bats have gone missing. Mookie Betts, Kyle Schwarber and a handful of everyday regulars are riding cold runs long enough to have their own Unders, and the two hitters who are swinging it stand out precisely because so little else on this card is. Here's where the numbers sit before first pitch.
| Bet | Record | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Mookie Betts Under 1.5 Total Bases | 20 of his last 22 | -146 |
| Bryan Woo Over 2.5 Earned Runs | 13 of his last 18 | +134 |
| Xavier Edwards Under 0.5 Runs | 21 of his last 22 | -180 |
| Daulton Varsho Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI | 20 of his last 27 | +105 |
| Seiya Suzuki Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI | 18 of his last 22 | -135 |
| Kyle Schwarber Under 1.5 Total Bases | 7 straight | -125 |
Mookie Betts can't buy a base
One total base or fewer in 5 straight games. That's where the Dodgers' shortstop sits heading into a 2:20 PM ET matinee at Wrigley, and his Under 1.5 Total Bases has cashed in 20 of his last 22.
The season-long picture explains the run rather than contradicting it. Betts is slashing .203/.266/.367, and Los Angeles dropped him to fifth in the order in late July after a .140 stretch across 12 games. Shota Imanaga is expected to start for Chicago, and Betts has stayed Under this number in 7 of his last 9 against left-handers.
Worth a look: Under 1.5 Total Bases at -146.
Bryan Woo has been getting touched up
+134 on a starter who has allowed 3 or more earned runs in 6 consecutive outings. Woo is expected on the mound for Seattle against Detroit at 9:40 PM ET, and he's gone Over 2.5 Earned Runs in 13 of his last 18.
The opponent does nothing to soften it. Detroit arrives having outscored opponents by 42 runs across its last 10 games, and the Tigers have hit .313 as a team in that window, per Fox Sports.
The lean is: Over 2.5 Earned Runs at +134.
13 games without touching home plate
Xavier Edwards hasn't scored a run since late July. Miami's second baseman has stayed Under 0.5 Runs in 21 of his last 22 games, and against right-handed starters it's 14 of his last 17.
Bryce Elder is expected to start for Atlanta at 7:15 PM ET, and the Braves have been closing games out early enough that the back half hasn't offered Edwards many free passes around the bases either.
Worth a look: Under 0.5 Runs at -180.
Plus money on a quiet Varsho
+105 is the number on Daulton Varsho staying Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI, and he's done exactly that 5 games in a row and in 20 of his last 27. Against right-handers it's 14 of his last 19.
Toronto opens the day in Houston at 2:10 PM ET with Hunter Brown expected to start for the Astros. A cold everyday bat at plus money is the sort of thing this board hasn't offered much of lately.
Stands out: Under 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI at +105.
Seiya Suzuki is the loud one
Not every bat here has gone missing. Suzuki has cleared 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI in 18 of his last 22 and 4 in a row, averaging 3.05 across that run.
He draws left-hander Eric Lauer, and he's beaten this number in 6 of his last 7 against lefties. Same Wrigley matinee as Betts, pointed the opposite way, which makes the 2:20 PM ET start the most interesting 3 hours on the prop board.
Worth a look: Over 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI at -135.
Schwarber's power switch is off
Kyle Schwarber has stayed Under 1.5 Total Bases in 7 straight, averaging 0.29 total bases across that stretch. Philadelphia hosts Washington at 6:40 PM ET.
Could be a value play: Under 1.5 Total Bases at -125.
Quick hits
- Munetaka Murakami has a hit in 11 consecutive games, and in 17 of his last 19 (-175).
- Freddy Fermin keeps putting the bat on the ball, with a hit in 9 games running ahead of a 9:40 PM ET start in Arizona (-180).
- Brayan Rocchio hasn't scored a run in 11 straight, though at -235 you're paying up for the privilege.
- Steven Kwan has a hit in 5 in a row and 17 of his last 19, and 16 of those 18 games against right-handers went the same way.
- Tomoyuki Sugano has held it to 3 earned runs or fewer in 14 of his last 19. Coors Field at 3:10 PM ET is the test, at even money.
Game markets have their own personality today, and most of it lives in the early innings. That side of the card is in tonight's team trends board. If a price looks off between two books, our EV calculator will tell you how much that half-point of juice is actually costing you.
Six of the seven names above are here because they haven't done anything. Somewhere in a 15-game day, one of these bats wakes up. Good luck picking which.
